Obama Caesar: The Runaway Presidency

ripcon 4

In my last essay I discussed the arrogance and lawlessness of the Obama administration and its bureaucrats, practiced on a scale unprecedented in American history. Now I’d like to address the ramifications, and what they might mean for the country.

Speaker of the House John Boehner is spearheading an effort by that chamber of Congress to sue Obama in federal court for exceeding his constitutional authority as President. Some – notably Sarah Palin – are calling for Obama’s impeachment. I think both approaches are doomed to failure at this point in time.

Both approaches require lengthy legal processes, and we’re less than four months away from the mid-term elections. As such, I believe they’re distractions that are red meat for parts of the “base”, but will prove ultimately futile, and may even be politically counterproductive in the GOP’s efforts to secure a majority in the Senate.

Any impeachment process that starts now would go nowhere, as when the current 113th Congress is replaced by the 114th in January, if Obama hasn’t already been convicted by the Senate – an impossibility as the Senate is currently controlled by loyal Democrats – the process wouldn’t carry over to the new Congress, and would have to start all over again.

A similar problem attaches to any lawsuit, in addition to which the courts are very leery of getting involved in matters of separation of powers jurisdictional issues. Further, the House may have a major problem establishing “standing”, or defining an actual tort damage, as they retain the power to address Obama’s excesses through their exclusive constitutional power of the governmental purse strings, whether or not they want to use it.

Let’s assume for this discussion that the GOP retains the House and takes control of the Senate. Then what?

At that point Obama would be the lamest of ducks, and there would be nothing at all to restrain him from indulging his imperial proclivities to their fullest extent; Obama Caesar.Obama Caesar If he’s ignored the Congress and the Constitution up to this point – and he has, blatantly – there would be no reason for him to hold back at all anymore.

Impeachment then does become a distinct possibility. But we should never forget about Obama’s anti-impeachment insurance policy: Joe Biden. Can you imagine HIM as President? Talk about hopping from the frying pan into the fire!

But there are also other avenues to explore. Attorney-General Holder is still under a contempt citation; he should be impeached. Lois Lerner of IRS scandal fame can and should be prosecuted. The Benghazi scandal should be aggressively pursued. Heads should roll over the scandalous and corrupt actions that have taken place within the Veterans Administration resulting in the deaths of vets. A GOP-controlled Congress can use the power of the purse strings to defund the EPA’s excesses (and they should).

Obama should be so mired in his scandals that his already dismal approval ratings plummet even further. Public opinion is the one sure way, at least at this point in history, to hobble a runaway presidency and will have the added benefit of tarring the Dem/socialist candidate hoping to succeed him in the 2016 presidential election.

A GOP-controlled Senate will also then have the power to prevent Obama from appointing activist leftist judges to the federal court system, maybe one of the most important reasons for the GOP to take the Senate in November.

What happens if the Dem/socialists retain a Senate majority, you ask?

Buckle up, because we’re looking at a potential catastrophe for the next two years as that lamest of ducks will have no restraints at all to keep him from indulging himself to the fullest extent, free from worrying about suffering any real repercussions at all, because his Dem/socialist abettors and enablers in the Senate will continue to insulate him from the consequences of his actions, just as they’ve already been doing for years.

I’m not overstating when I say that I’m not sure the country can survive that eventuality. I hope we don’t have to find out.

“Politicization”?… Well, Duh!

Obama and his minions are mired up to their eyeballs in scandals, what with Benghazigate, the IRS targeting of conservative groups for harassment, and the Justice Department’s secret grab of Associated Press phone records, not to mention the lingering Operation Fast & Furious debacle.

thCA03K8S0I’ve been watching the so-called “testimony” of outgoing IRS Commissioner Steven Miller (that’s him sweating in the picture) as he tries to weasel his way around actually having to answer very pointed questions directed to him by the congressional committee investigating the IRS’s malfeasance. Highly entertaining.

Even more entertaining are the howls of protest from Obama’s apologists who bleat that these investigations are merely some kind of “politicization” and that those pursuing these issues are simply trying to “score political points against Obama”.

Well… what’s wrong with that? Obama was elected to office – a “political” process – and I’d think it’s certainly a perfectly valid and rational question to ask whether or not that political process ended up putting into that office a man who is corrupt, or at the very least allows and even encourages corruption to permeate the ranks of government, all to achieve his own “political” purposes.

th[3]Isn’t that what the “political” process is about? Giving the people the information they need to make “political” decisions about the people they’re electing to public office? Is a person in office somehow magically immunized from having any further “political” responsibilities for his actions anymore? Really? Is that the same standard the leftists applied when Bush was in office? Not to mention Reagan, when they spent eight years setting their hair on fire?

Or are we simply watching another exercise of standard leftist hypocrisy?

I know where I place my money on that question…

SODDI: Some Other Dude Did It

I hold a valid Private Investigator license out here in the great state of Commiefornia. I qualified for it as a result of my experience as an Army Military Intelligence agent. But in my varied work career there was a time period of a couple of years when I worked as an in-house Case Manager for a criminal defense law firm here in Lost Angels. That meant I did the original screening and preliminary investigations on cases involving our new or prospective clients, a varied assortment of scumbags.

th[7] (3)As an aside: yeah, yeah… I know… I was working on the Dark Side. It’s true. But it did give me some great stories with which to regale friends and family. You’d actually be surprised at how creative some of these idiots could be in formulating their laughable “defense”. You wouldn’t think they had it in them.

But the most-used defense they most often came up with is what we laughingly called the SODDI Defense. Some Other Dude Did It. No matter what evidence the cops had, it was always our new client who somehow had failed to perceive that he was being framed by Some Other Dude, or he was the hapless victim of actions taken by Some Other Dude.

Dope in your pants pocket? Not MY pants! I borrowed them from Some Other Dude.

Gun in your car? I don’t know how that got there! Some Other Dude was sitting in the car and must have left it!

Girlfriend dead in your bed? I didn’t hear a thing! Some Other Dude must have snuck in and did her!

I have to tell you, from what I’ve seen Some Other Dude is one busy guy. All we have to do is catch him and we’ll have solved any crime problem we have in this country.

Which brings us to the ObaMessiah and his minions. Has anyone other than me noticed a pattern here?

Operation Fast And Furious, the gunrunning scheme to ship “assault weapons” to the Mexican drug cartels, resulting in several hundred deaths of Mexican citizens and one US Border Patrol Agent. Per the Administration, it was all due to decisions made by low-ranking local personnel. “We didn’t know a thing about it!” SODDI!

BenghaziGate: Ditto! SODDI!

The latest revelation of governmental misprision, that the IRS targeted conservative organizations for audits and other forms of harassment. Per the Administration, it was all due to decisions made by low-ranking local personnel. “We didn’t know a thing about it!” SODDI! Again. Yeah, right…

Apparently in this administration made up of the “Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight”, no one commands anything. Certainly noth[9] one ever takes responsibility. It always seems to be “low-level” employees running around making all kinds of policy decisions to the complete surprise of the bosses once they bungle the job and get caught.

We see it here in BenghaziGate. Same deal with Fast & Furious. Same deal with the IRS targeting conservative PACs for tax audits.

Now we have the latest scandal du jour, the Justice Department illegally obtaining the phone records of Associated Press bureaus and reporters. Obama’s response? “I know nothing!” SODDI, no doubt.

Are we seriously supposed to believe that no one takes charge? NONE of these political hacks have any responsibility? They let junior people run around making policy decisions for the COUNTRY?

How come they could all manage to be “on the ground” in their war room, posing for the pictures all tense and tough and alert while watching Seal Team Six waste bin Laden, but no one was available while our ambassador was being slaughtered over several HOURS?

How come they couldn’t control their own shipments of guns to Mexico that were supposed to result in the decimation of the drug cartels, but we’re supposed to believe that further gun control laws will do anything at all to reduce domestic crime?

Why are “low-level IRS agents at a local facility” allowed to make policy and screening decisions about which applications and returns to audit without ANY supervision at all, according to the Administration’s SODDI defense? Why is the Justice Department running around illegally grabbing phone records without any supervision by anybody, with no accountability or responsibility?

Whatever happened to “The Buck Stops Here”? When did it turn into “Buck? What Buck? Some Other Dude stole the Buck!”?

Or are they full of baloney and trying to duck taking their medicine?

There’s only one answer that makes any sense at all… You be the judge.

Now I Know How Alice Felt In Wonderland

Well, Hillary Clinton finally “recovered” from her head trauma injury or whatever, and deigned to appear in Congress to testify on BenghaziGate. She put on quite the show, too, with much wailing and tears and shouting and gnashing of teeth and table pounding.

It reminded me of the old law school adage that goes: “When the fact are on your side, pound on the facts. When the law is on your side, pound on the law. When neither the facts nor the law are on your side, pound on the table”.

Well, that she did. If we see her wearing an Ace bandage in upcoming pictures, we’ll all know why.

clintonAt one point in her histrionics, when asked about why she and others were busy blaming the slaughter on that silly video that no one had seen, she screamed: “What difference, at this point, does it make?”

Well… of course, THAT’S not the right question. The RIGHT question to ask is what difference it made at the time. At the time, Obama was trying to take the credit for killing bin Laden and solving all our problems in the Middle East with his dazzling diplomacy and military brilliance. The idea that BenghaziGate was due to al Quaida loyalists attacking our diplomatic mission would have destroyed that narrative, betrayed him as the incompetent fool he is, and endangered his chances at re-election. So we, the people, were lied to.

As to what difference it makes “at this point”: well, Nixon was undergoing impeachment proceedings NOT for the Watergate break-in… but for lying about it after the fact, Miss Self-Righteous Sanctimony. As was your own husband, Mr. Bill “I Never Had Sex With That Woman” Clinton, who was impeached NOT for “not having sex” with Monica Lewinsky, but for lying about it after the fact, and in fact committing perjury.

THAT’S why it matters “at this point”, Hillary, you nitwit.

In other news…. In my last essay I published an email exchange between my congressman and me highlighting his – and the GOP’s – failure on the issue of the debt ceiling.

Weeellll… the hits just keep on a’coming.

This last week or so, the GOP in all its continuing idiocy seems to have decided to really gulp the socialist’s Kool-Aid and not only jump on the scamnesty for illegal aliens bandwagon (known as “comprehensive immigration reform”), but hitch up the horses, polish the woodwork, play all the instruments, and lead the parade.

60383b09-5fe5-3c06-9309-dd3707a28c5c

With Schumer… What does that tell you?

They’ve trotted out their pet “minority” apologist to sit in the driver’s seat: Marco Rubio, in the role of Judas goat. Of course, you have John McAmnesty riding shotgun, with Lindsay Graham on trombone, the Chamber of Commerce hitting the piano and drums, all while the socialist cheering section sits on the sidelines laughing their butts off.

These knuckleheads claim that we have to bring the 11 million (surely a ridiculously low estimate) illegal aliens “out of the shadows”. The first thing that popped into my mind was: are we planning on bringing all the child molesters “out of the shadows”, too, by legalizing kiddie sex? If not, why not, if that’s your big rationalization?

ANYhoooo… supposedly, we’ll get a “secured border” first, after which the illegals will get a “pathway to citizenship”. Then they’ll all magically turn into Republicans, apparently.

Really! I’m not kidding! That’s REALLY what these idiots believe!

First of all, I’m old enough to remember 1986, and the Simpson-Mazzoli amnesty which Reagan signed into law, promising amnesty to 3 million illegal aliens in return for… drum roll, please … a secured border, tighter controls, and employer sanctions for hiring illegals! Whoa! Déjà vu all over again! The same thing we’re hearing NOW!!!

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Reagan later regretted signing that bill into law, knowing he’d been bamboozled, because the only thing we ever got out of it was the amnesty. Now here we are, 27 years later, with THREE TIMES as many illegal aliens as we had before Simpson-Mazzoli, having the same damned discussion with the same damned rationalizations, excuses, and empty promises.

This is an absolutely IDIOTIC idea. Why does immigration reform have to be “comprehensive” at all? Secure the damned border FIRST. And only THEN do we even start talking about anything else.

These moronic GOPers are like a bunch of lemmings, running right over the cliff with the Dumbocrats steering the way in committing national suicide, with the deluded and stupid idea that they’re somehow going to win over minority voters. That ain’t NEVER gonna happen while the leftists can keep playing the “race card”. It just ultimately creates an even larger pool of voters dependant on government handouts. And guess who THEY’RE gonna vote for. This is just expanding that “47%” demographic that Romney was pilloried for correctly pointing out.

People Died, Obama Lied

At last! A “shovel-ready” job! What is it, you ask? Why, it’s moving the mountain of bovine excrement Obama & Company are trying to use to cover the magnitude of his ineptitude and the depth of his dereliction, as well as the cost in lives, in the Beghazi-Gate and Fast And Furious debacles.

The Benghazi fiasco continues to escalate. Check out this
article
. Turns out Ambassador Chris Stevens and his security team (now all dead) had known for quite some time there was a lot of danger. They’d asked for security reinforcements. Turns out that during the day of, they’d radioed for help, and someone somewhere – the CIA claiming it wasn’t in THEIR chain of command – denied or refused to act on the SOS. Turns out American air and commando forces were only an hour away, but weren’t sent to the scene in spite of repeated radio requests for help during the several-hours-long attack by armed insurgents. Turns out there was a real-time info stream being transmitted, at least audio and perhaps video. People in DC knew what was happening while it was happening. But the folks in Benghazi were left hanging out to die. Uh-uh. No cavalry for YOU guys, Chris!

Now we know Obama’s response to the fabled “3 AM phone call”. Evidently, an event like this is a “not optimal … bump in the road” that can’t be allowed to interfere with Mr. Fundraiser’s campaign events, as within hours he was on his jet winging his way to Nevada to haul in the money.

After all, we do have our priorities…

Then the next couple of weeks were spent trying to bury the facts under the excrement pile by blaming the attack on a YouTube video that no one had ever heard of or seen. After all, Obama was the guy who “killed bin Laden”, right? And hadn’t that solved all our problems with Islamic jihadists?

Maybe not so much…

This episode is the perfect companion piece to the Fast & Furious mess, in which Obama’s ATF goons shipped a couple thousand guns – including full-auto submachine guns – to the Mexican drug cartels in an effort to gin up a case for the idea that American gun shops were the source for the illegal gun trade in Mexico, thereby justifying tougher gun control laws.

Unfortunately for The One, one US Border Patrol Agent named Brian Terry was killed by one of those guns, along with over 300 Mexican citizens. And the cover-up on that “program” continues, with Obama’s AG Eric Holder stonewalling Congress and a federal subpoena demanding the documents in the case.

What do these episodes have in common, other than piles of dead bodies? The refusal by Obama or any of his political cronies to accept any responsibility at all for what happened. Apparently, things just happen in a vacuum, with underlings somewhere in the chain of command making decisions that have costs in lives, and it all takes place without the Incompetent-in-Chief having any knowledge of what those people are doing.

So, let me see if I have this right. Obama is the guy who “killed bin Laden”, even though the actual mission was carried out by a SEAL team, a tactical unit pretty far down the chain of command. Yet at the same time, he’s also the guy who didn’t know anything about illegally shipping thousands of guns into a foreign sovereign nation, resulting in the deaths of hundreds of that country’s citizens and setting up a major international diplomacy problem; and he’s also the guy who didn’t know anything about an attack on our consulate – sovereign American soil in Libya – and the murder of our Ambassador and other personnel.

Well… which is it? Is he a stud, or a dud?

Obama: “Bin Laden is dead”… Me: “So What?”

In light of everything that’s been going on in the Middle East and North Africa over the last week, I have to comment.

First of all, as those who know me or have read my scribbling over the years are aware, I’ve long maintained that the idea of a Western-style democracy successfully taking hold in the Muslim/Arab world is a pipe dream. There are no cultural underpinnings to support such an enterprise, and in fact their cultural and religious foundations are antithetical to the concept.

Over the years I’ve written several essays on the subject, and you can read them here, here,  here, and here.

Our country suffers from two deadly weaknesses in our approach to the problems in the region. The first is that, with the exception of Reagan, no one inside the Beltway in post-Vietnam history has had Clue One about how the Arab/Muslim mind works. They think, in spite of all the historical evidence to the contrary, that the prevailing mindset is no different from our own. I think you actually have to have lived in the region to realize how wrong that idea really is. I spent my high school years in Iran, and I can’t imagine a more foolish concept.

The second weakness is our dependence on oil from the region. Unquestionably, that limits our options, and forces us into “alliances” that are contrary to our own national self-interests. A perfect example is our relationship with Saudi Arabia. Though that country is perhaps less anti-Western than others, they’re certainly not our friends in the way that a country like the UK is, for example. We’re simply a market for their product: oil. They’re still the source for international Wahabiism, and terrorists such as bin Laden draw much of their financial support from sources within that country. Don’t fool yourselves; they’re not our allies in the real sense of the word.

Which brings us to Obama. Obama is the “perfect storm” of ignorance of the region coupled with stupidly utopian idealism coupled with a refusal to take any realistic actions to lessen our dependence on oil from the region. A disastrous trifecta of insane policy.

As I’ve said before (here, here and here) we’re sitting on an ocean of oil we’re just letting sit in the ground purely for political reasons. We have more known and recoverable oil than any other nation on the planet; three times as much as Saudi Arabia. The solution to our “energy dependence” problem is very simple: Drill, baby, drill!

But we can’t do that because the amateur in the Oval Office won’t allow it. The pump price of gasoline has doubled since Obama took office, but he’s stuck on stupid when it comes to oil, and would rather hitch his wagon to fantasies about “alternative energies” that don’t even exist at this point in time, rather than actually address the problem with the obvious and easy solutions that already do exist.

All we have to do is drill our own oil to free us from having to worry about the actions being taken by Muslim extremists who seem to spend their whole lives being “offended” by everything under the sun. We could simply flip them off and have done with it.

And just exactly what are the policies being implemented by Obama in the Muslim/Arab world? They’re a repeat of the exact same policies that worked so well under “Peanut Jimmy” Carter! Remember those good old days?

Carter proved how “tough” he was by engineering the downfall of the Shah of Iran, and his replacement by Ayatollah Khomeini, and look how well that turned out. Obama proved how tough he was by “killing bin Laden” and facilitating the “Arab Spring”, and look how well that’s turning out. Obama is Carter Redux. Worse, actually, because he’s refused to learn the lessons of history, and is repeating the same stupid actions that have already proven to be disastrous in the past.

If we insist on remaining engaged with the Arab/Muslim world, we have to do so from a position of unyielding strength and pragmatism that isn’t filtered through rose-colored lenses that project a vision of Western values that doesn’t exist in the region. We have to use our aid dollars as both a carrot and a stick. We have to find some pro-Western strongmen, and back them. Maybe over time a foundation can be laid that will allow Western-style democracies to develop there, but the key words are “over time”. A long time, probably generations at least.

At this time, we’re viewed in the Muslim/Arab world as being paper tigers; easy and impotent targets that never respond to provocation. In that world, that’s fatal. Until we learn that lesson and act accordingly, attacks against our interests and outposts will continue. It’s just that simple.

These are all lessons that are clear to see. Obama has proven to be an epic failure in this arena. His response has been to thrash around impotently, throwing blame hither and yon, then promptly getting back to the only activity he’s reliably pursued throughout his presidency (other than playing golf), campaigning for re-election. The current debacle in the region doesn’t seem to interest him as anything more important than just a minor campaign delay.

Good. Grief.
